Case study: AIDAnova
Powering the first LNG-fuelled cruise ship
ABB Turbocharging has a long-standing
relationship with renowned cruise line, AIDA Cruises.
Fully committed to going green, the cruise line wanted to move towards a lower emissions fleet. It needed to continue providing a premium,
reliable, safe and trusted service, while also reducing greenhouse gases.
In 2016, AIDA already used emissions-lowering LNG for docking purposes. So we asked, “How about cruising on LNG?”
AIDA’s response? AIDAnova: the world’s first LNG-powered cruise vessel.
AIDA chose to pair our turbochargers with LNG fuel for three main reasons:
Our reputation for building the most reliable turbochargers for medium-speed engines.
To improve the performance of its dual-fuel engines.
To provide guaranteed high-power output, fuel saving and low emissions.
As well as achieving its goal of reduced emissions, AIDA benefitted from competitive lifecycle costs, and the assurance of a well-established relationship with a reputable supplier.
